Job Description
Job Title: SHEQ Chief Safety Officer
Industry: Mining
Location: North West, South Africa

Hire Resolve's client is seeking an experienced and highly skilled SHEQ Chief Safety Officer to oversee all aspects of safety, health, environment, and quality within their mining operations located in the North West. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, develop and implement safety programs, identify and mitigate potential hazards, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) policies, procedures, and programs to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and distribute safety reports, statistics, and analysis to management and stakeholders, highlighting areas for improvement and providing recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and prevent recurrence, ensuring that all incidents, near misses, and injuries are properly documented and reported.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive and engaging safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors to promote awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication channels to ensure clear and consistent dissemination of safety-related information throughout the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement and maintain an effective emergency response plan, including evacuation procedures, drills, and equipment readiness.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable environmental regulations and develop strategies to minimize the organization's impact on the environment.
  • Conduct regular reviews of quality management systems to ensure compliance with ISO and other relevant industry standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to safety, health, environment, and quality, and provide recommendations for improvement and innovation.


Requirements
  • Degree or National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environment Management, or a related field. 
  • Professional certifications in occupational health and safety, environmental management, and quality management (e.g., CSP, CIH, NEBOSH, ISO auditor).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Safety Officer in the mining industry, with at least 2 years as a Chief Safety Officer
  • Strong knowledge of mining industry safety regulations, best practices, and standards (e.g., MSHA, OSHA).
  • Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing effective safety programs and initiatives in a mining or heavy industrial environment.
  • Excellent understanding of risk assessment methodologies and experience conducting safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to gather, interpret, and present safety data and trends.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in using safety management software and other relevant technology tools.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to different mining sites within the North West as required.
  • Valid driver's license.
